Trampolines
Two things decide a trampoline: the size that fits your backyard, and the safety details that let you relax while the kids jump. Everything else is secondary.
You'll find the full range here, from mini toddler and indoor trampolines through to 8ft, 10ft and 12ft backyard trampolines, in round or rectangle, sprung or springless.
What size trampoline fits your backyard
Measure the spot first, then add clearance around the frame and overhead. As a rough guide:
|
Size |
Best for |
Space to leave clear
|
|---|---|---|
|
6ft to 7ft (small trampoline) |
Younger kids, tight backyards |
1.5m around, 4m overhead |
|
8ft trampoline |
A common starter for one child |
2m around, 6m overhead |
|
10ft trampoline |
Two kids or a growing family |
2m around, 7m overhead |
|
12ft and up |
Multiple jumpers, older kids |
2.5m around, 7m plus overhead |
Watch for branches, washing lines and eaves. Those catch people out more than fence lines do.
Round or rectangle, and what each is better at
Round trampolines pull jumpers back to the middle, which suits one child at a time and most family backyards. Rectangle trampolines give a more even bounce across the mat and a bit more height, which older kids and confident jumpers tend to prefer. Rectangles need more clear space on all sides, so measure before you commit.
Springless or sprung, what's the difference
Sprung trampolines use metal springs around the edge, covered by a padded pad that sits between jumpers and the springs. The Plum Springsafe range is a common example. Springless designs, like the Lifespan HyperJump3, move the bounce mechanism out from under the jumping area entirely, so there's no spring to land on.
Sprung tends to cost less, and the pad needs checking each season. Springless costs more upfront and has less to replace. One child at a time applies to both.
Safety nets, padding and clearance
An enclosure net should reach well above head height when a child is bouncing, with a zip closure that actually stays shut. Check padded spring covers each season and replace them if they've cracked or thinned. Set the trampoline on level ground with a soft surface underneath, keep the clearance mentioned above, and stick to one child at a time.
Every product page lists the specifics. Our Warranty and Returns Policy and Product Recall page are both on site if you need to check either before or after a purchase.
Toddler and indoor trampolines
For under 5s, a mini trampoline with a support handle, like the Little Tikes Easy Store, keeps things low and steady. The Plum Junior Jumper range, available in 6ft and 7ft options, is designed for children aged 3 to 10 years, subject to the individual model’s maximum user weight. Indoor rebounders work for rainy days and smaller homes. Check the stated weight limit rather than age alone, and move up to a full backyard trampoline once your child outgrows it.
Age and weight guidance
The Shop by Age filter (0 to 3, 3 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 11, 12 plus) narrows the grid quickly. Weight limits matter more than age, so check the manufacturer's max weight before you buy, especially if siblings will share.
Setting it up and looking after it
Most backyard trampolines take a couple of hours and two adults to put together. Anchor the frame if you're in a windy spot. Check springs, pads, net and stitching at the start of each season. Plum trampoline covers and ladders are stocked as accessories if you want to protect it over winter or make getting on and off easier.
Where a trampoline fits alongside other outdoor play
A trampoline isn't the only option. For a younger or less steady child, climbing frames or a swing set can be a better starting point, and a trampoline slots in later once they're confident on their feet.

Trampoline FAQs
What size trampoline should I get for my backyard?
Measure the available space and check the model’s recommended age and maximum user weight. Larger trampolines provide more jumping space, but only one person should jump at a time unless the manufacturer expressly states otherwise.
Are springless trampolines safer than sprung ones?
Springless designs move the bounce mechanism away from the jumping area, so there's no spring to land on. Sprung trampolines with well-maintained padded covers are still a solid choice. Either way, one child at a time and a proper enclosure net matter most.
What age can a toddler start using a trampoline?
Mini trampolines with a support handle suit toddlers from around 3, depending on the product's stated age and weight limits. Full backyard trampolines are generally recommended from age 6 and up. Always check the manufacturer's guidance on the specific model.
How much clearance do I need around a trampoline?
Aim for 1.5 to 2.5m clear on all sides and around 6 to 7m of overhead clearance from branches, eaves and washing lines. Larger trampolines need more. Level ground and a soft surface underneath matter just as much.
Can more than one child jump at a time?
One child at a time is the safest rule and applies to both sprung and springless trampolines. Most injuries happen when two kids of different sizes bounce together. Set a turn-taking rule with siblings from day one.
Do trampolines need to be anchored down?
Yes, especially in windy areas. Anchor kits peg the frame to the ground and stop the trampoline lifting or shifting in strong wind. Check the anchors after storms along with the net and pads.
Can a trampoline stay outside all year?
Yes, most backyard trampolines are built for it, but a fitted cover extends the life of the mat and pads. Have a look through our outdoor play equipment for covers and accessories that suit your setup.
What weight can a kids trampoline hold?
It varies by model, generally 25 to 50kg for toddler and mini trampolines and 100kg plus for full backyard sizes. Check the maximum user weight shown on the product page or in the manufacturer’s instructions. If it is not listed, confirm it before purchasing. Don't exceed it, even briefly with two kids.
