How to Get the Right Helmet Fit?

A helmet only works if it fits properly. Here's the quick version:

  1. Measure the head.

    Wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of your child's head, just above the eyebrows and ears. Note the circumference in cm and match it to the helmet's size range.

  2. Position it level.

    The front rim should sit about two fingers above the eyebrows, not tipped back on the crown.

  3. Adjust the dial.

    Tighten the rear dial until the helmet feels snug but not pinchy. It shouldn't rock forward, back or side to side.

  4. Check the chin strap.

    You should be able to fit two fingers (no more) between the strap and the chin, and the side straps should form a V just under the ears.

  5. Replace when needed.

     After any real impact, retire the helmet even if it looks fine. Otherwise, it's worth replacing every few years as foam and straps wear.
