Basketball hoops for every driveway and bedroom

Basketball's the biggest one on this page, and there's a hoop style for pretty much every situation.

Portable basketball hoops

Portable hoops sit on a weighted base you fill with sand or water. Wheel them onto the driveway for a game, roll them back out of the way when you're done. Adjustment ranges vary considerably between models. Some junior hoops begin at around 1.1m to 1.6m, while larger systems start above 2m and extend to approximately 3.05m regulation height.

Wall mounted and door mounted hoops

No driveway space? A wall mounted ring or an over-the-door hoop keeps the game going in a bedroom or on a garage wall. Door mounted rings suit younger kids and quick shootarounds. Wall mounted ones give you a proper backboard without taking up any floor space.

Mini basketball hoops

Mini hoops are great for toddlers and early primary kids learning to aim and score. They're also handy for indoor play when it's pouring outside. Worth pairing with our indoor sports gear for wet-weather days.

Adjustable height hoops

Adjustable hoops are useful if you have children of different ages or want the setup to grow with them. Check each model’s minimum and maximum rim height, as some are designed for younger children while others begin above 2m and extend to regulation height.

Silent basketball

Silent basketball is a foam ball designed for indoor dribbling and shooting without waking the house or annoying the neighbours. It feels similar to a regular basketball while making far less noise on hard floors.

Soccer goals and nets for the backyard

Soccer goals range from compact pop-up designs to larger training goals. A smaller goal usually works well in a tight backyard. If there’s enough room for a decent run-up, a larger option makes the game feel more realistic.

Rebounder nets are worth a look if your child practices solo. Kick the ball in, it comes back, they trap and shoot again. Cones and training extras round out the setup. Have a browse of our active outdoor sports gear for the rest.

Cricket sets for backyard test matches

A backyard cricket set usually includes a bat, ball, stumps and bails. For kids under 8, stick with a soft ball or an incrediball. A hard ball is genuinely painful if it catches a small hand or shin.

Junior bats are shorter and lighter, sized roughly by height. A Size 3 or 4 suits most primary aged kids, Size 6 through the early teens, senior after that. You need about 10 to 15 metres of clear space for a proper backyard game.

Table tennis and foosball for indoor play

Table tennis needs about 1.5m of clearance behind each end of the table for a proper rally, so measure the room before you buy. A full-size table is 2.74m long. Mini and mid-size tables suit smaller rumpus rooms and younger kids still learning to control the ball.

Foosball tables are often the better pick for kids aged around 5 to 8 who can't yet rally at table tennis. Everyone's in the game straight away. See the full range of games tables for the rumpus room.

Tennis, badminton and pickleball sets

Kids tennis sets come with shorter racquets sized for smaller hands. A portable net that adjusts between tennis, badminton, volleyball and pickleball saves you buying three separate kits, and packs down small enough for the park. Pickleball is easy to pick up as a family game because the court is small and the rallies last longer.

Choosing the right size gear for your child's age

Probably the most useful part of this page. Get the size right and they'll actually use it.

Frequently asked questions

What height should a basketball hoop be for a child?

Set the hoop to about 1.6m to 2.0m for kids under 7, 2.1m to 2.4m for 7 to 9 year olds, and 2.4m to 2.6m for 9 to 12. From 12 and up, regulation is 3.05m. An adjustable hoop covers the lot as they grow.

What size soccer goal do I need for a small backyard?

A 1.8m to 2.1m goal fits most small backyards and still gives kids room to score properly. If you've got a longer run-up and older kids, step up to 2.4m or 3.6m for a more realistic game.

What's in a kids cricket set?

A typical kids cricket set includes a junior bat, a soft or incrediball, stumps and bails. Some sets add a carry bag or extra ball. For under 8s, always go with a soft ball rather than a hard cricket ball.

Is table tennis or foosball better for young kids?

Foosball usually wins for kids around 5 to 8. Everyone's involved straight away and there's no rally to keep going. Table tennis is a better fit once kids are around 9 and can control the paddle and ball for a few shots in a row.

What age is a mini basketball hoop for?

Mini hoops suit toddlers through to early primary, roughly ages 2 to 6. They're also handy as an indoor option for older kids when the weather's in.

Can you use a portable basketball hoop on grass?

Check the manufacturer’s setup instructions before placing a portable hoop on grass. The surface should be level, firm and stable, and the base must be filled exactly as directed. Avoid placing boards, pavers or other improvised supports beneath the base unless the product manual specifically permits it.
